Transitions can leave us feeling unsettled and searching for familiarity and comfort. Are you seeking God’s faithfulness and righteousness in the midst of transition or are you trying to fix the problem yourself?

John Wayne's last sermon at Kingwood United Methodist Church is taken from Isaiah 43:1-3; 16-21. As we transition out of the wilderness, so to speak, it is time for us to see what God is up to and join him in that work. In Isaiah 43, God not only promises to help the people in their wilderness but he promises to transform it. Maybe, this is the corporate encouragement we need in this time.

Pastor Chris brings us a message praising a God who refuses to let us give up on ourselves or our purposes even in our moments of frustration, fear, uncertainty and despair.  That same, one true God speaks to us in the noise of a protest or the silence of a pandemic to call us to share the good news of Jesus Christ with one another in our actions and words!

Jesus is led by the Spirit into the Wilderness to face evil before his ministry ever begins. This is a unique wilderness for Jesus but also one that brings implications for our own life. This wilderness also can speak into our current problem with racial injustice and evil in the world.

In the wilderness the Israelites learn about obedience and the faithfulness of God. Obedience can often be misconstrued to be something that is oppressive or demanding from God, when for the Israelites obedience was about witnessing to the world about God. This is not unlike our opportunity to shine God's light in the middle of the wilderness.

We all know that God provides water and Manna in the wilderness.  What what if God doesn’t just want to get you through it? What if he is using this season for so much more!

As the people of Israel leave the oppression of slavery in Egypt and approach the Red Sea they feel caught between the fear of Pharoh chasing them and the impossibility of the Red Sea in front of them. God moves and makes a way. And we can learn how to address our fears by focusing on God.

We begin our new series, “Wilderness: What Now?” by engaging with the story of the Israelites leaving slavery in Egypt. Our hope is that by learning from their lives we can more fully understand God’s love and presence with us in our modern day wilderness experience.

Peter is one of the more colorful characters we see around Jesus in the gospel narratives. We also get to learn a lot about him; his struggles, his failures, and his work for Christ. Jesus appears to many following the resurrection and in this text, but He is up to something specific with Peter. Join us as we consider the commissioning of Peter and how it might instruct our own lives.
